Michelle's Triathlon for Leukemia and Lymphoma
On September 29, 2002 I’m going to be participating in my first triathlon. A 1-mile swim across the frigid waters of Lake Disney, a 6-mile run, and a 26-mile bike ride around the park.
I am a member of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Team in Training which is an endurance training program that helps raise funds for leukemia and blood-related cancers, and to improve the lives of local patients and their families. I decided to take on this challenge as a remembrance of my best friend, Melanie, who lost her battle with Leukemia last year. I have also been honored to be matched with 3 South Floridians... Carlos - a 33 y.o. who's in remission after being treated for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma Eric - a sweet 6 y.o. who loves basketball and playing with his Playstation Pedro - a 9 y.o who after being diagnosed with Acute Lymphotic Leukemia or ALL, (the most common form of leukemia in children), is in remission. He's thankful for the society and the researchers who work so hard to cure these blood-related cancers. I am excited to help others while I'm becoming a better person mentally and physically. This is going to be a huge challenge for me, but it is small in comparison to the challenges that they and their families face everyday. I will keep the spirit of my honored teammates close to my heart! Please join me in this awesome venture! Whatever you can contribute will make a difference…it all adds up! Please contact me by July 1,2002 (so I can monitor my fundraising efforts). Of course, contributions will be accepted and appreciated after that date. Thank you for your support by helping me to achieve my goal! P.S. Please sign my guestbook so I can see who has visited! |
